Okay, I found another commercial that I like. It’s hilarious. Maybe I am watching more television than I have been disclosing. The ad I am referring to is the Free Credit Report Dot Com Pirate Commercial. Doesn’t it make you laugh?
Apparently: Because of Identity theft, a man is forced to work in fish food restaurant and where a pirate suit. He and fellow scallywags sing about it.
Lyrics:
They say a man should always dress for the job he wants
so why am I dressed up like a pirate in this restaurant.
It’s all because some hacker stole my identity.
Now I’m in here every evening serving chowder and iced tea.
Should have gone to freecreditreport.com (yeehaa!)
I could have seen this coming at me like an atom bomb.
They monitor your credit and send you email alerts.
So you don’t end up selling fish to tourists in t-shirts.
Here’s the real site to get your report: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
The singer in the commercial is Eric Violette. It is not a real band, rather he is a comedien. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think he has done all the Free Credit Report Dot Com Commercials: NEW CAR, and my favorite, DREAM GIRL.

Love all the commercials…but who ARE they? Any idea?

I think these guys should get their own sitcom! They are very entertaining, and probably have more much potential than the “cavemen” who got their own show (which was pretty funny, but I must have been the only one that watched it)!

They aren’t a real band, the main “vocalist” [whose name is Eric Violette] is a French actor who lip syncs in the commercials. Pretty lame, huh.

These commercials are hilarious. The band isn’t half bad either.

Hi Rod and Jon! I think these commercials are hilarious, too. And, so does my husband. Apparently, I am not the only one. People visit this post every day. Do you know more about the band? Who are they? Do they have a website? Are they a real band or just actors for the commercial? I would love to blog them. I just need more info.

The one that kills me is the “married my dream girl one”. Apparently his dream girl is only worth marrying if she has good credit. If he had known he would still be a bachelor with a dog and a yard. Who knew she had to have good credit to be someones dream girl. Is it just me or is that pretty darn cynical?

Bdawgfl.. We all have slightly different visions of the “dream girl” .. or “perfect woman” … a super hotty who likes beer AND my poker buddies AND happens to be a nympho.. that works.. but add the fact that her father owns a liqour store and we’re into a bonus area.. then.. add good credit.. I’d propose on the spot.

If you look up Eric Violette on Youtube, you’ll see more of his real life music. He’s apparently a French speaking Canadian. I love the commercials, but I don’t speak French, so I’m not as big a fan of his regular (non-commercial) stuff.

I find these commercials offensive and insulting to everyone who works in the food service industry or restaurant industry.
There are MANY people who choose to wait tables for a living and make an easy and fun $30,000 a year for serving “Ice Tea” to people. Yes, I make $30,000 a year in tips, mostly cash.
The commercial is funny but also implys that ANYONE who works in a restaurant is doing it because they cannot find a better job. I HAVE a 4 year degree in accounting, I just choose to wait tables because it’s the highest paying job for the time I put in! I can work 5 hours a day and make $30,000 a year. Beat that with your boring desk job.
28/04/2009 at 3:50 PM
youidiot
grow up.. it isn’t a direclty slight to you personally, though it sounds like you have issues. Why do you protest so much? Are you not telling the whole truth when you file your taxes? .. or have you realized that it’s hard to buy a new BMW serving iced tea? …. now.. stand behind a bar for the same length of time.. or wait tables in a high-end restaurant, and you can triple your salary.. notice how they didn’t mention that? (btw, I work as a consultant and log maybe an hour a day more than you.. and I mark my salary MUCH higher.. without the guilt over my taxes.)

ken from nc
you know i understand where your coming from i too did waitering for red lobster and in 5 hours of sweating and running like a slave i made at most 100 and thast if the tips were top of scale. the only way a person can make 30,000 a year serving tables is if you work for a country club where they add tips automaticlly or your a manager and even thats a stretch. if you have a four year degree in accounting then im sorry to say your not working as a waiter for the fun of it. your doing it because you cant get an accounting job. the commercial is not implying that anyone who works in a resturant cant find a better job. however since you posted you have a four year degree maybe your implying it. im not trying to be mean but your putting your own foot in your mouth i think you might wanna be careful in the future. for the record as a human resource manager sitting behind a desk i eran 49,000 a year. so working behind a desk is better than waiting tables.

I don’t know where you were working to only pull that but as a dishwasher, there’s a crap job 4 ya, i pretty consistently made that every year. we were always the lowest paid. wouldn’t that have been a scene singing in the kitchen over a steaming grinding dish machine. lol
18/02/2008 at 12:41 PM
christygriner
I have to agree with you on this: waiting tables can be very lucrative. I have waited tables in the past and done really well. And, I loved every minute of it. It’s fast paced, people oriented, fun, exciting, and challenging. I haven’t had a boring desk job since!

Does anyone know who or what movie the old lady in the freecreditreport.com commercial is? Her final stare looks really familiar and is earily disturbing and gives me the “willies”

Yeah, I love that old lady. Is she suppose to be his mom or grandma in the commercial. She always give the lead singer an evil eye like he forgot to make his bed or take out the garbage. Gotta love those commercials!

I thought for sure I would be the only person who found these commercials hilarious – my husband thinks I’m a lunatic.

But what are the SONGS the commercials are based off of? I know i’ve heard them before but i can’t place them…..it drives me nuts! Maybe it’s that, or the fact they are getting a little overexposed, but they’re starting to annoy me a little :)

these commercials are not on very much but the “cavemen” are on what seems like every thirty minutes, and let’s face it Eric (the curly headed singer) is much better looking. These commercials makes me want to watch tvland a whole lot more often, because of the commercials.

I LOVE this little three piece band! These commercials are the cutest I’ve seen since Geico started! I thought it was just me who noticed the look on the old lady’s face when the bass player says YEE-HAW! And it KILLS me at the end of the commercial where he buys a bad car how bad-ass he’s stiill trying to be! LOL

By the way…John Doe Waiter…..I’ve been waiting tables for 30 years and I agree the money is fantastic. You need to lightn up and quit taking yourself so seriously! If you do maybe your tips will get better!

I do not see where this commercial is insulting to food sevice people, I was one at one point and do not take offense to this commercial. As in all commercials the point is that the guy is selling a service for Id protection. And in some circumstances you can lose your job because of credit problems including banking jobs which pay far less than food service people in a lot of cases. For some people it might seem insulting to their jobs, but others just take it as what it is a sales ad for a service as well. I think the group is good and think your main guy will go far. Hope to see more of them and him in other things with more information about him in the near future. He has a look that makes him look like the boy next door look.

I’m 68, a retired teacher, who is SICK of seeing the people sing on TV that act as though they’re dying with emotion! What a put on!
This guys just sings! I love it!
To the waiter that appeared to be offended about the commercial. Teachers don’t make that much starting out and we get, “those who can….DO, those who can’t….TEACH!” I would still DECIDE to teach because I LOVED it!

Someone PLEASE tell my wife that the old lady is VERY UPSET after the bass player says “yee haw”!! PLEEEEASE!! My wife doesn’tt see it, though she does concede that if something is wrong, that it might be a sudden case of indigestion! My only other question is – WHY is she so upset all of a sudden?! Thanks!
And yes, I do know I need to get a life. Sigh.

These commercials really are offensive. I am currently a multi-unit manager for 17 casual dining restaurants. I started off as a server and worked my way up. And I had GOOD CREDIT. This commercial is attempting to stereotype restaurant employees as low-life, bad credit losers.

Your joking, right? You like this commercial?
I am particularly infuriated by the sexism of the “dream girl” commercial. Not only does it imply that women are financially irresponsible it implies that a financial mistake is a reason for a man not to marry. In a way, this gestures toward the dowry system once practiced in the U.S. and still used in other countries, for if woman does not improve man’s financial situation she has no worth, as her practices will continue to drain him. Moreover, the commercial explicitly shows the woman working in the household doing laundry–another implication that she is a drain on income, as she plays the traditional housewife role. It’s 2008 and this commercial would have us believe it’s the no later than 1950.

What I want to know is, who is the other guitar player (blonde?) that hides in the background – he finally shows himself on the new (pool party) and is he H-O-T!! I’m a 53 yr old graphics artist and think that the lead singer is sooooo cute!!! Wish I was in my 20’s again!
Personally, I didn’t notice that the lip-syncing was all that bad, but then again the TV is small and all the way across the room…..reason to get a larger TV is to see Eric Voilette better! LOL!
These commercials sure beat that gecko….I wish some snake would eat him!

I love these commercials, especially Rock Star. But why would bad credit force you to have to work as a waiter instead of a job without pirate hats? lol! I’m still trying to figure that one out.
I was also wondering if those guys were a real band or just a bunch of actors. It seems it’s the latter, but love ’em all anyway. The lead singer is a cutie!

I just need to know the name of the drummer. His face a very familiar.
And…yes…we love the commercials too.

I am an 86 year old G-Grandma so I can safely say the guitar player is a beautiful young man. Who is he? If only other sommercials were as pleasant!

This commercial and others are okay, but I don’t like the other one that says:
“F to the R to the E to the E to the C to the R-E-D-I-T Re to the Port to the dot to the com… gaahhhhh”

The old woman that’s in ALL of the commercials has been bugging me, starting with this one. Happy and dancing one minute, then annoyed and disapproving after the “yeehaw”. She’s in all of the ads after this, and even more disapproving in all of them. Like shaking her head at the three of them in the bicycle ad, and the renaissance ad. It’s crazy stuff. There has to be a story behind it.

Sitting here laughing my backside off, because sonme folks are upset over a ficticious commercial! Some folks will gripe about anything!

Jack 's (happy) Wife

Oh Lord, another left academic. (rolls eyes) You know, the vast majority of people, live in traditional role relationships. In point of fact, most are quite happy with it. Those of you in the ivory towers do not live in the real world.

I was wondering . . . in the renaissance ad, there’s a woman who, near the end of the ad, walks by the singer and pushes his guitar out of her way. Reminds me of the Dream Girl in that ad who walks by pushing the door closed. Could this be Dream Girl in the Ren. ad? And is she pregnant? Or is it just the costume?

I really need to know which commercial was first. Wasnt it the pirate? isnt that why the hat is in all the other commercials?
You guys gripping….get over yourselves…I wouldnt marry a man without checking his history…eyes wide open..right? and I love waiters…everyone has a nitch…so get off the high horse and relax…its funny….

second attempt. i love the commercials.
for the ‘lit professor.’ marriage is a partnership. i am home all day, so i wash the dishes and do the laundry. my husband also does laundry, but he primarily does the cooking.
in this day and age — one’s credit needs to be checked. i would not want to make the mistake of marrying someone and then getting stuck with their bad credit history.

I don’t find the commercial hilarious at all. I find it irritating and hit the mute button as fast as I can or switch channels. It’s especially bad because it’s advertising a service that is free from the three credit report companies anyway!

These are the most repulsive, stupid commercials I have ever seen. Every time they come on I switch the channel or hit mute.
I would not ever consider using this company. Please take these awful things off the air. I am begging! PLEASE, PLEASE!!

i’m a drummerman of over 40 years and i’ll tell you that that guy is right on the mark in what he’s playing.i know this is studio recorded, but this fellow is or has spent a little time behind a set of drums at sometime in his life!

the drummer on the Free Credit Report dot com commercials looks like the same guy on the milk commercials where he is that guy all dressed in white and plays a white guitar. Anyone concur with that??

Does anyone know the name of the actress who plays the old lady? She seems familiar.

Silly. The girl HAS to do the laundry because the guys are all playing and singing. It’s not sexism–it’s multi-tasking.

I think the old lady is Betty DeGeneres, Ellen’s Mom

These guys are so cute. I want to know who writes those lyrics, I have an growing consumer business publishing establishment and could really “blowup” if these guys hook me up with the writer. Wow, What writers!!! The used-car commercial had me choking the first time I laughed so hard.

Lip syncs is not at all lame. Eric has a nice webpage giving us more info about himself. Like most Canadians he does speak french and is fluent in English.
He is a professional Canadian actor, song writer and singer who plays guitar and piano with an impressive resume.
I love all of the freecreditreport.com videos and it does not matter if the threesome is a band on their own or not to me because they are still so very entertaining.
I will be forever watching their videos. I have extended family in Canada, so perhaps I should take a road trip to meet Eric V and see him performing live in person.
