Free Credit Report Dot Com Dream Girl Commercial

with 61 comments

Have you seen the Free Credit Report Dot Com Dream Girl commercials?  Well, I married my dream girl. Well, I married my dream girl. Brian and I laugh uncontrollably EVERY time we see this one. And, the jingle gets caught in my head.  The replaying of the lyric in my head is annoying.  Yet, it is a cute commercial.

Eric Violette sings in entire series of commercials.

Here are the lyrics to the Dream Girl Commercial:

well i married my dream girl,
i married my dream girl
but she didn’t tell me her credit was bad
so now instead of living in a pleasant suburb
we’re living in the basement at her
mom and dad’s
no we can’t get a loan for a respectible
home just because my girl defaulted
on some old credit card
if we’d gone to free credit report dot com
i’d be a happy bachelor with a dog and a yard

Do songs get stuck in your head, too? Like does the melody play over and over again uncontrollably?

I guess this is what advertising is all about, why it is scary and why it works.  It’s also a good reason to get less TV time.

  1. [...] The singer in the commercial is Eric Violette. It is not a real band, rather he is a comedien.  Correct me if I am wrong, but I think he has done all the Free Credit Report Dot Com Commercials:  NEW CAR, and my favorite, DREAM GIRL. [...]

  9. This is the most offensive commercial I have ever watched. First, she is so hot, I could care less about her credit rating. The commercial makes no sense to heterosexual men. Second, why is he complaining about her credit rating? Why can’t he get a decent place on his own credit rating? Finally, I think freecreditreport.com is not only “not free,” the service can only provide a credit report for yourself, not on a potential mate. Even if the loser in the commercial subscribed to this expensive service, he couldn’t get a credit report on anyone other than himself. I will never do business with this company based on this commercial.

    • um, he could probably afford a 1 bedroom but he wanted an actual HOUSE.

generally it’s tough to afford a whole house on 1 person’s salary.

well, at least until the housing market collapsed.

it’s a freakin commercial. lighten up Frances.

you’re probably the type of d’bag who sits at a comedy show and says “yeah, well that doesn’t REALLY happen so I’m not gonna laugh.”

      It’s called sarcasm.

listen to some George Carlin- you may learn to appreciate it.

  13. My 8-year old daughter pointed out to me that all 3 commercials tie in together with the pirate hat. In this “Dream Girl” spot, the hat is in the begining, to the right of the singer (Eric) during his close up (look directly to the right of the headstock of his guitar), on top of a VCR.

In the “New Car” spot, the pirate hat is in the back seat along next to the bass player (who is playing electric guitar in this one). You see it during his close up when he almost closes his eyes as he sings the harmony vocal part.

Yes, I agree the FCR.com people are dishonest, but these commercials are kind of funny, at the very least, amusing. I love the continuity between all 3 of them, and wonder how they could pull off another 2 or 3 of these with different themes.

I would STILL like to know the name of the actress in this commercial, she certainly IS a hotty!

  20. Zach,

You don’t know me or my situation in life. How dare you for making assumptions and judgemental conclusions!

I might have had a daughter out of wedlock, or maybe I am a divorcee.

Or, as is the case, perhaps my wife was killed in Iraq while serving her country for big fat dumbasses like you to pontificate with your holier-than-thou smartass attitudes. You are far too judgemental on a blog that is SUPPOSED to be pure fun, but no, you had to stick your greasy, pimple infested nose where is doesn’t belong.

Next time, stop sniffing the airplane glue, get your head out of your ass and join reality. It’s the thing that ISN’T Southpark on TV or a videogame on your Playstation, check it out sometime.

And even if I WERE still married and not a widower, it is not YOUR place to judge me. At least I appreciate the female form instead of being completely gay like you!

  22. Zach -

I have two daughters. Both fully grown. I too appreciate the female form.

By the way, your grammar, spelling, punctuation, and complete misunderstanding and misapplication of the word “adultery” leads us all to one inescapable conclusion —

You’re too young to be allowed on the computer. Your mommy is calling, kid. Quit gunking up the comments section, and go play with your toys.

Now, back to the comment -

    1) We sure Eric Violette actually SANG these and didn’t lipsync? It seems from his demo reel that he would have a heavy French accent …

    2) Any idea who the tall drummer is? He’s got a good look!

    Love the commercials, nevertheless.

  26. Am I the only person out there who wishes slow and painful death for whoever wrote those annoying “Free Credit Report dot com” commercials that blast the airwaves during every news show?

I particularly hate the “I married my dream girl” commercial. Not only is the singer an ugly and dirty hippie pig, not only is the song itself insipid and annoying, but the very message is an insult to the sanctity of marriage.

Marriage is something “for richer, for poorer; for better, for worse.” Yet here is this commercial in which the @$$ hole singer derides his wife for her poor credit rating. I don’t know about you, but I find this to be one of the least tasteful ads, ever. Couples go through money problems. It happens to almost all of us. It has happened to me. It has happened to other members of my family. People lose jobs. People have investments go south. People have medical problems. You know what a good spouse is supposed to do? STEP UP AND BE SUPPORTIVE! Make sacrifices. Work jobs you don’t like. Help the family make it through. Most of all, remember your vow to love and cherish for richer for poorer. You know what you DON’T do? You don’t sing a mocking song about how you shouldn’t have married the bitch.

Honey, dump the guitar-playing loser. You can do better than him! He doesn’t love you. He doesn’t respect you. He has no respect for the sanctity of marriage. Go find a nice, clean-cut man – one with a real job who doesn’t just sit around the house playing guitar with his stoner buddies – and discover what real love is.

And shame on you, evil corporation, for running this commercial! Readers, you should be outraged. You should boycott this company as long as this commerical runs.

I will never, NEVER, use the services of Free Credit Report dot com. I won’t even give them the courtesy of a link. And please, please, will all the TV and radio stations out there stop running these commercials? When I see/hear one, I change the channel. I urge all of you readers to do the same – and inform your local channels that they are losing you.

    • Get a life Bro. It’s just a song. Obviously he’s not married to her, it’s just a catchy tune and by the way, he is doing his JOB. He is doing what he can to make money, unlike your worthless family who’s investments go south cause all you do is complain. I’ll gladly say this because I have a successful job, own my own business, have a beautiful girlfriend, drive a porsche, and a 2 mill dollar house. Cause I work and don’t complain like you. You probably just got married cause you knocked up your sl*t wife. Lol

  31. Gee, Isn’t it also funny that the new “Red Flag” legislation which will cost all of us plenty in new regulation and less credit availability, would absolutely prohibit any pretence of acquiring someone else’s personal information. Every congressional person and regulator must have seen this spot dozens of times, but just as in the 125% home loan and no proof of income sub-prime mess, they just ignore it. What a joke.

  32. Wow, thanks for this blog! I was hoping to easily discover who this singer is—thank you Christy, for posting Eric’s link, and Scot, for the pleasant surpise of the pirate hat connection (I never noticed that before). Has anyone found out if Eric wrote the songs too?

The Clio is the award for the best commercials of the year (like the Oscars and Emmys)—these commercials have my vote (the Pirate is my favorite).

And here’s a question I’ve never been able to answer: who’s the band that did the “Zoom, zoom” song for the Mazda commercials?

  33. Okay, here’s what nobody else seems to get in this series of commercials. In the first two, we see the main guy (Eric, as I now know) moaning because HIS credit stinks because someone hacked him.

So in the Dream Girl commercial, what no one seems to notice or comment on is that he is now BLAMING his dream girl that he married for his sucky credit!

Since he was a broke loser in the first two, could someone explain to me how it’s HER fault now?? He says he’d be a happy bachelor with a dog and a yard…from the initial fact that his credit sucks, it would make more sense to assume he’s lucky to be living in someone else’s basement because he couldn’t afford his own rent (because his credit sucks, remember.)

His yard and a dog would most likely be a junkyard with a junkyard dog living in his crappy car…if he hadn’t married his dream girl and was lucky enough to find parents who let a slob like him move in!

  43. Just a commercial? First off, the company that represents itself as being “free” has been on the losing end of a class action suit for the false claim. Notice on all these insipid commercials, they now tag on the “offer requires enrollment…” That part often gets clipped.

Regardless of whether or not the commercials are for entertainment purposes, or if they are/aren’t related, it’s hard to NOT see the glaring flaws in logic.

Pirate: A hacker causes someone to have to work at a restaurant? What does this say for the many people who make their living this way? Also, if he had an ID theft problem, I think there would be more important things to consider. Did that cause him to lose a previous job, or did his parents make him go out and start working instead of playing guitar in the garage?

Dream Girl: Apparently his “dream girl” isn’t really that. Maybe it should have been in the pre-nup? Someone else said a mouthful earlier about how bogus this is on so many levels. I guess credit trumps love?

Used car: Boo frickin’ hoo! You think you’re so special that you deserve a Lexus or something? Get something within your means. That’s what everyone has to do. It’s not a right. Can’t get the expensive job? Good luck with insurance!

Bicycle: Total bullshit. Bike store doing a credit check? You’re not Lance Armstrong. You can get a decent bike for under $100. Coming from someone who rides a lot, I know what I’m talking about. If you’re talking about financing a 10 speed, you’re probably doing something wrong.

What the hell, though… someone’s getting paid to put that tripe on the air, and it looks like it’s getting attention – good and bad. Personally, I consider it a barely legal scam. I see them using exaggeration to play on some fears. As long as it makes money it’ll stay on.

  45. He says, “If we’d gone to free credit report dot com
I’d be a happy bachelor with a dog and a yard.” But when you get married, you’re no longer a bachelor. So, does that mean that if they’d go to free credit report dot com that they would’ve found out about her bad credit and then NOT gotten married? It sounds like he would’ve gotten a nice house in the suburbs and a dog and a yard. But, I don’t know…..

  52. Your credit report is important and should be monitored. You should get your free credit report once a year at least.

  53. OMG. The dream girl commercial is a JOKE! I mean I am the feminist of feminists believe me, I find misogyny in so many places other people would never even think to look, and our whole society wants to hide it but keep it keeping women down..but really this is just going too far.

The reason the dream girl commercial is FUNNY and a JOKE is because it’s obvious that love and marriage SHOULDN’T be like that, and no man should want out of a marriage with his dream girl just because she has bad credit. That’s why it’s funny because it’s obviously sarcastic, if it wasn’t so incredibly clear that of COURSE that is wrong wrong wrong, and horrible that a guy would put credit (and essentially money and material things) above true love..then there would be no joke in the jingle. Essentially the guys in this commercial are really making fun of themselves, not anybody else…which is a good sign that anybody could be that humbling…well they may not be making fun of themselves, because who knows who they are in real life, but they are making fun of the whole series of commercials.

  54. Gullyborg,

it is not a REAL relationship, it’s fictional and it’s not even a movie, not even a show it lasts less than a couple minutes. some of us have actually been through situations where we were treated like dirt by someone who was supposed to love and support us. believe me there is misogyny and horrible things said and implied all over our culture in songs on the radio, in books, movies, and even commercials..I wish you would go fight against some of that because it’s everywhere and it feels like it’s winning sometimes and no one is paying attention….but this commercial is just a joke, meant for a laugh and I enjoy it and it gives me a chuckle. To me clearly the joke is that love is NOT supposed to be that way, that it should be the opposite. That’s why it’s funny, if anything it’s making fun of guys that really are jerks like that.
