Just A Window to the Whimsy Old World of My Favorite Little Fancies & Obsessions

I have been boo’d by Neptune Baby.
Here are the deets:
Go to as many of your blog buddies as you want and tell them they have been boo-ed . Have them pick up this picture and add it to their blog and say with the link who boo-ed them . Put the picture in your sidebar if you want so then others know that you have already been boo-ed , if you post lots and it’s not on the main page where everyone will see your boo-ed post!
I love The Cherry Blossom Girl. Her blog makes me want to go back to Paris. Perhaps, move there and wear bows all the time. I just spent an hour getting lost on her site. love it.

we bought a pumpkin several weeks ago. but, with everything going on we haven’t had an opportunity to carve. southern mamas has a fun idea to put your pumpkin where your politics are:
Nothing like putting your politics where your pumpkin is.

I came across this today and I had to share the joy. Considering the hectic, less than joyous week including Dad’s passing, his funeral, burial, and all the ceremonies blissful diversions are welcome at my house.
I am passing this one on to you. Enjoy.
{although in true ‘christy’ form, I’m a little nervous about that one guy and the barbed wire. hope that worked out for him}
love you guys and thank you for EVERYTHING.
Every person carves his spot and fills the hole with light.
And, I pray some day I might light as bright as he.
Lyrics:
I woke up crying late at night
when I was very young.
I had dreamed my father
had passed away and gone.My world revolved around him
I couldnt lay there anymore.
So I made my way down the mirrored hall
and tapped upon his door. And I said “Daddy, I’m so afraid
how will I go on with you gone that way?
Don’t wanna cry anymore
so may I stay with you?”And he said “That’s my job,
that’s what I do.
Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me.
That’s my job you see.”Later we barely got along
this teenage boy and he.
Most of the fights it seems
were over different dreams,
we each held for me.He wanted knowledge and learning.
I wanted to fly out west.
Said, “I could make it out there
if I just had the fare.
I got half, will you loan me the rest?”And I said “Daddy, I’m so afraid,
there’s no guarantee in the plans
I’ve made and if I should fail,
who will pay my way back home?”And he said “That’s my job
that’s what I do.
Everything I do is because of you
to keep you safe with me.
That’s my job you see.”Every person carves his spot
and fills the hole with light.
And I pray someday I might
light as bright as he.Woke up early one bright fall day
to spread the tragic news.
After all my travel, I settled down
within a mile or two.I make my living with words and rhyme
and all this tragedy
Should go into my head and out instead
as bits of poetry. But I say “Daddy, I’m so afraid,
how will I go on with you gone this way?
How can I come up with a song to say
I love you?”That’s my job, That’s what I do
Everything I do is because of you
to keep you safe with me.
That’s my job you see.
Everything I do is because of you
to keep you safe with me.
friends are amazing. this morning i learned that a team has been organized in dads honor to walk in the local 2008 statesboro memory walk next saturday at bulloch academy. the team is called: the griner gang. it is humbling. it is touching. it brings tears to my eyes. as dad rests are the ogeechee area hospice facility here, there is a team of people prepared to walk on georgia/florida saturday in his honor, in our honor really. i don’t know what to say. thank you. my heart beats an extra thump of joy with this knowledge. as my family endures this season of our lives i must express my sincere gratitude for my community and my circle of friends. i love you all.
i am joining holly’s team as the teams goal is $500.00. if you would like to support us, please go here to our team page. i know money is tight for everyone right now so please don’t feel obliged to make large contributions, however even a dollar donation will help our team and help our cause and support dad. i can not tell you how much it means to me. thank you.
The photos and this post make me smile. I hope it does the same for you!
Don’t those two look like fun!?
P&P would be in high-heaven with them.
Paul Costello’s portfolio is full of dogs… I find it delightful… it says “someone really lives here”.
(okay, so that wasn’t a dog, but still… I think it counts)
Do you have an inside dog? Can you imagine your home without it?

And if you are a dog-lover like me, this is a great book:
i am sharing this post from one of my favorite blogs: Urban Grace . this post definitely makes me miss Southern Pet Sitters.
Beatrice’s room is FULL of toys. For that matter, it seems our house is one giant toy box. Some of the curios are hand-me-downs while others are first hand jewels. Yet, of all the playthings and baubles she sometimes opts for simple things like this Burger King sack.
Brian crowned her with it during dinner the other night. She had the most fun with the novelty of a paper sack gone tiara. Our Queen of Everything became the Queen of Burger King while merrymaking the entirety of her reign.
I am going to try to remember this when the next issue of Pottery Barn Kids lands upon my mailbox or as I drool over the baby dolls and kitchen sets in Little Doses.
“Remember Mommy, the complimentary bag is just as fun as the most expensive trifle,” I promise to remind myself. Perhaps, I should make myself a sticky note reminder to place upon my wallet during the Christmas holidays!
Is this cool, or what? I was led to this post on Cookie’s Nesting blog the other day (via A Room Somewhere). This is so fun. This man in Kentucky decorated his entire basement using Sharpie markers. See more here. I guess, I am not the only person with a thing for Sharpie’s. Afterall, this guy’s drapes are drawn…and everything else, too. Here’s one for thrifty, creative design.
Brian and I do not plan to learn the sex of Baby Hulsey. Just like with Beatrice it will be a surprise until the crowning moment. However, I can not resist plugging my information into this. According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar Beatrice will have a sister.
I chose I Don’t Know You Anymore by Savage Garden for this week’s Music Monday. I heard this tune by the Australian pop duo on Shelby’s blog last week. With Dad in the hospital, this song hits home.
Here are the lyrics to I Don’t Know You Anymore:
“I Don’t Know You Anymore”
I would like to visit you for a while
Get away and out of this city
Maybe I shouldn’t have called but someone had to be the first to break
We can go sit on your back porch
Relax
Talk about anything
It don’t matter
I’ll be courageous if you can pretend that you’ve forgiven me
Because I don’t know you anymore
I don’t recognize this place
The picture frames have changed and so has your name
We don’t talk much anymore
We keep running from the pain
But what I wouldn’t give to see your face again
Springtime in the city
Always such relief from the winter freeze
The snow was more lonely than cold
If you know what I mean
Everyone’s got an agenda, don’t stop
Keep that chin up, you’ll be all right
Can you believe what a year it’s been
Are you still the same?
Has your opinion changed?
‘Cause I don’t know you anymore
I don’t recognize this place
The picture frames have changed and so has your name
We don’t talk much anymore
We keep running from these sentences
But what I wouldn’t give to see your face again
I know I let you down
Again and again
I know I never really treated you right
I’ve paid the price
I’m still paying for it every day
So maybe I shouldn’t have called
Was it too soon to tell?
Oh what the hell
It doesn’t really matter
How do you redefine something that never really had a name?
Has your opinion changed?
Because I don’t know you anymore
I don’t recognize this place
The picture frames have changed and so has your name
We don’t talk much anymore
We keep running from the pain
But what I wouldn’t give to see your face again
I see your face
I see your face

look mama. it’s the kiwanis ogeechee fair parade.
brian and i strolled beatrice to the parade this year. it was fun to have brian with us as it made us thankful he works in Statesboro. yay! it was also fun to see how much more interested beatrice was in the parade compared to last year. she loved it.
admittedly, it was sad too. when i think about parades i can not help but think of dad and how much he loves parades. i really need to emphasize LOVES parades. this will be the first year he is absent from the annual ogeechee fair kickoff event.
talking about the fair…there is something about the pancake house and my dad. the smell of local cane syrup and him. those two things just go together. last year when the alzheimers was beginning to kick-it a little bit, i think he went to a few extra shifts. he was so excited. eagerly, he would show up early, leave late, and volunteer on random unassigned days. he would just show up. it’s great fun, tonight, to imagine him cleaning tables, picking up plates and socializing (mainly the latter). dressed in the club uniform of a bright gold shirt he shuffled about the patrons wiping a blotch of maple syrup here and a griddle crumb there. his bright royal blue kiwanis hat balanced upon his head while his dark blue lee jeans began to sag.
on nights like those it didn’t matter if he told the same story over and over, or repeated himself. there were too many people coming and going. at one time he knew almost every body. now, he recognized only a few. no one cared too much or noticed among the bustle of activity. he was, sort of, swallowed into the crowd. it was perfect. i imagine him having great fun with the droves of people that herd through this mecca of kiwanis fundraisers. content. peaceful. people watching. feeling appreciated, needed and like he had a job.
okay, so back to the parade. maybe it isn’t such a bad thought after all. as i wish for him to be involved this year, great memories of yester year conger . great. great. memories. memories that make me smile.

okay. i have to share this recipe. I tasted Stacy’s tiny biscuits this friday. They are delish!
Stacy’s Tiny Cream Cheese Biscuits:
Ingredients
1 stick of butter,
8 oz. block of cream cheese,
and 1 c. self-rising flour
combine the butter and cream cheese w/ an electric mixer until creamy (about 2 min.) and then gradually add the flour until just combined. Bake @ 400 in mini-muffin pan for 15-17 min. -from Southern Living Easy Weeknight Favorites 1998
note: do not grease the muffin tin, the butter in the recipe makes these fall right out of the tin w/o any “extra” help.
Happy baking!
I don’t think we will make this one. But, if you are looking for something fun to do with the family or your pets this sounds like a great idea. On second thought, maybe we will meader down there. Who knows. No, what am I thinking. We have company this weekend. My Grandmother is here so we definitely will not be going to the Pirate-fest. But you should go, mate-y, you will have fun.
Tybee Island Pirate Fest Parade, is 3 p on Sat., Oct. 11, 2008 and it is FREE. Following an invasion of the City of Tybee, the pirates will gather for a victory parade down Butler Avenue sharing
their wealth of trinkets with the crowd along the route while stopping in front of city hall where they shoot their cannons. The parade is part of the Tybee Pirate Fest which includes live entertainment, costume contest, children’s events and the Thieves Market filled with treasures, grog and grub. 912.786.5444. Put burgers on a lightly oiled grill over the prepared coals and grill for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until done as desired. Serve on split toasted buns with your choice of sliced vegetables and condiments.
Serves 4 to 5.

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 . Tell me that you love me more. Happy Wednesday. I don’t think I ever shared this photo with you. I really wanted this lamp. I did not get it.
Brian thought it was a bad idea to have to lug it around. He was right. But now, I really wish I had it.
P.S. Can you find the hidden hubby? I just noticed he is in the reflection!
